AC leak causing black mold; DIY vinegar or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit onto the carpet for a couple of weeks and now I'm seeing a few black spots in the corner behind the nightstand. The humidity has been brutal lately. Is this something I can tackle myself with a vinegar solution or do I need to call a professional company right away?

Based on the symptoms you've described – AC leakage onto carpet combined with visible black spots – this is a situation that requires immediate professional attention, not a DIY approach. In the UAE's high humidity, what you see is often just the tip of the iceberg. The moisture has likely wicked up the wall and saturated the carpet underlay and possibly the subfloor, creating an extensive reservoir for mold growth that vinegar cannot address.

Vinegar is a surface-level disinfectant and is ineffective against established mold colonies, especially on porous materials like drywall and carpet. Disturbing it yourself can aerosolize harmful spores throughout your bedroom, significantly increasing your exposure and potentially causing respiratory issues.

Dubai Municipality has specific guidelines for handling mold to ensure occupant safety and proper containment. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters, thermal imaging, and air sampling to determine the full extent of the contamination, which is almost always worse than it appears. Remediation involves isolating the area with negative air pressure, safely removing contaminated materials, and using industrial-grade antimicrobials, not household products.

For a situation involving HVAC leaks and visible growth, calling a professional is not just recommended; it's essential for your health and the integrity of your home. We strongly advise against handling this yourself.
