Black mold in AC vent, who to call for cleaning in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah apartment has been blowing this weird, damp smell for a couple of months, and I finally decided to investigate the unit. I pulled off the vent cover in the living room and found what looks like a patch of black and green fuzzy stuff spreading along the inside of the duct. I'm really worried about my family breathing this in. What's the best way to get this properly cleaned and who should I call in Dubai for something like this?

Good afternoon. That is a concerning discovery, and you are right to be worried. What you've described—a persistent damp smell followed by visible black/green growth inside the duct—are classic indicators of a hidden mold contamination within your HVAC system.

In the UAE's climate, AC units are prime locations for mold due to constant condensation. When mold grows inside the ducts, it doesn't just sit there; it's aerosolized and distributed throughout your entire apartment every time the AC turns on, which is a significant health concern.

For this situation, a simple DIY cleaning of the vent cover is completely insufficient and can actually make it worse by disturbing and releasing a large amount of spores. This requires professional assessment and remediation.

You need to call a company certified in mold inspection and remediation. They will perform a thorough inspection, often using borescams to see deep into the ductwork, and take air and surface samples to identify the spore types and concentration levels. This is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol.

The cleaning process is not a simple wipe-down. It involves isolating the HVAC system, using HEPA-filtered negative air machines to contain the spores, and then employing specialized agitation tools and antimicrobial agents to clean the entire duct system from the inside.

For a proper inspection and a certified cleanup in Dubai, I strongly recommend you call the professionals at 800-MOLDS (800-66537). They can assess the extent of the problem and provide a solution that ensures your family's air is safe to breathe again. You can also email them at hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment. Don't delay on this.
