Remove mold behind wardrobe myself or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black fuzzy spots I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It's the wall facing the outside, and I'm worried it might have been growing there since the humidity spiked a few months ago. I’m tempted to just scrub it with bleach myself, but is this a DIY job or do I need to call in a professional company here in Dubai to make sure it’s gone for good?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that requires a professional inspection and remediation, not a DIY attempt. The black fuzzy spots are a clear sign of an active colony. Scrubbing it with bleach is highly inadvisable; it is a superficial fix that only removes the surface discoloration. The bleach solution, which is mostly water, can actually feed the mold roots (hyphae) deeper within the gypsum board, causing the problem to return stronger. More critically, aggressive scrubbing will release a massive cloud of spores into your bedroom air, drastically increasing your family's exposure and exacerbating respiratory issues like the coughing you've observed.

In Dubai's climate, this is a systemic issue. The wall facing the outside is a classic cold bridge, where the intense outdoor heat meets your year-round AC cooling, leading to significant condensation within the wall cavity. This creates a perpetual moisture source that no amount of surface cleaning can address. The mold growth you see is likely just the tip of the iceberg; the internal structure of the wall is almost certainly compromised.

UAE health and property regulations emphasize the importance of professional remediation to ensure occupant safety and prevent structural damage. A certified company like ours uses containment barriers, negative air pressure machines (HEPA filtration), and industrial-grade antimicrobials to safely remove the contaminated material, treat the affected area, and identify the root moisture cause.

For the health of your children and to permanently solve the problem, you need a professional assessment. I strongly recommend you call our experts at Saniservice on 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and remediation plan.
