Can I remove sofa wall mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our sofa in our Mirdif villa has started to show these large black patches, and I only noticed it when I moved the furniture to clean. We’ve been dealing with the high humidity lately and I’m worried it’s spread inside the wall. Is this something I can tackle myself with cleaners from Ace Hardware, or should I just call a professional company for a proper assessment and removal, and what kind of cost am I looking at for a job like this?

Based on the description of large black patches behind your sofa in Mirdif, this is a serious concern that warrants a professional inspection. The high humidity we experience in Dubai, combined with potential condensation from year-round AC use and the lack of airflow behind large furniture, creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. When it appears in large patches, it is a strong indicator of a significant moisture issue, likely originating from within the wall cavity itself.

Attempting removal with off-the-shelf cleaners is not recommended. These products only address surface-level growth and will not eliminate the root cause—the hidden moisture within the wall. Disturbing the mold without proper containment and air filtration can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your villa and posing potential health risks. UAE regulations and best practices for mold remediation require specialized equipment like HEPA filtration, antimicrobial agents, and moisture meters to ensure the problem is resolved safely and completely.

For a proper assessment and remediation, you should contact a professional company. The cost for a job of this nature can vary depending on the extent of the infestation within the wall but is a necessary investment to protect your property and health. I strongly recommend calling our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. We can identify the moisture source, assess the full scope, and provide a detailed quote for its safe and effective removal. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
