Black speckles on cold interior wall: mold?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black speckles appearing along the bottom of the wall behind our sofa in the living room. It's on an interior wall that feels a bit cold, and we run the AC constantly. I'm worried it's mold from the humidity and I'm not sure if I can just wipe it down with vinegar or if this is a sign of a bigger problem I need a professional to check out.

Those black speckles on a cold interior wall are almost certainly mold, a very common issue in Dubai due to our high humidity and constant AC use. The cold wall is a condensation point where moisture from the warm indoor air settles, creating the perfect damp environment for mold to grow.
Wiping it with vinegar is a temporary surface fix, but it won't address the moisture source or any growth within the wall. For a small, surface-level patch, a thorough cleaning with a dedicated mold remover can help, but the underlying cause must be fixed. This is likely a sign of a bigger problem. The constant condensation suggests high indoor humidity levels or possibly even a hidden issue like a small plumbing leak within the wall. In Dubai's climate, professional assessment is often needed to identify the true moisture source, measure humidity levels, and check for hidden growth. A proper inspection can determine if remediation is required to prevent it from returning and potentially affecting your health and property. |
