Black mold in bedroom corner - call management or cleaning company?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. It's right above the window and seems worse since the humidity kicked in last month. What's the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call the building management first, or is there a specific cleaning company I should contact for an inspection?

Start by contacting building management, as this is likely a building envelope issue. In Dubai's high humidity, that black spot is typically condensation-related mold from thermal bridging, where the concrete slab meets the outer wall. The problem originates outside, so the building's maintenance team is responsible for investigating and fixing the root cause, which is often insufficient insulation.

For now, wipe the surface with a diluted detergent solution to remove the visible growth and monitor humidity levels with a hygrometer; aim to keep bedroom humidity below 60%. However, this is a temporary measure.

The building's team should address the condensation source. If they are unresponsive or the problem recurs after their repair, then seek a professional mold inspection. An independent assessment can identify the specific mold type and provide documented evidence of the moisture source, which is useful for formally escalating the issue with management if needed. In many Jumeirah buildings, this is a recurring seasonal issue managed through proper facade maintenance.
