Urgent to hire pro for black mold in shower?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold that's been creeping along the grout in our master bathroom shower. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it getting really bad this past month, especially after the humidity spiked. Is this something I need to get a professional to handle urgently this week, or can I tackle it myself with a cleaner from ACE?

Black mold in bathroom grout is common here due to Dubai's high humidity and condensation from showers. The recent spike in humidity has likely accelerated its growth.

For a small, surface-level patch (less than a square foot), you can attempt to clean it yourself. Use a dedicated grout mold remover or a paste of baking soda and vinegar. Scrub thoroughly, ensure the area is completely dry afterward, and improve ventilation by running the exhaust fan longer after showers.

Given that your children are coughing, professional assessment is strongly recommended. The visible mold is often just the surface of a deeper issue within the porous grout or behind tiles. DIY cleaning can disturb spores, potentially worsening indoor air quality without addressing the root moisture problem. A professional inspection can identify the mold species and the source of moisture, which is critical for effective remediation and ensuring it doesn't return. This is particularly important for households with children or anyone with respiratory sensitivities.
