How to remove black mold from Dubai villa bedroom wall?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading along the corner of our master bedroom wall behind the wardrobe. It’s gotten worse since the weather got more humid last month. What’s the most effective way to get rid of this ourselves, or is this a job for a professional cleaning company here in Dubai?

Black mold in Dubai villas often appears in corners or behind furniture where air circulation is poor and humidity accumulates, especially during more humid months. The most effective removal depends on the size and cause.
For a small patch (under one square foot), you can clean it yourself. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety glasses. Scrub the area with a mixture of detergent and water, then disinfect with a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water. Dry the area completely immediately after cleaning. However, this only addresses the visible growth, not the underlying moisture source. In Dubai's climate, the root cause is almost always excess humidity, often from condensation due to AC temperature settings, a hidden leak, or poor ventilation behind the wardrobe. Simply cleaning the spot will likely result in it returning. For a recurring or spreading patch, a professional inspection is recommended to identify and rectify the moisture source, which is critical for a permanent solution. They can also assess if the mold has penetrated the gypsum board, which may require cutting out and replacing the affected section. If the area is larger than one square foot, you notice a persistent musty odor, or if household members experience worsening respiratory issues, stop DIY efforts and contact a specialist. They use containment procedures and HEPA filtration to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of the house during remediation. |
