AC dripping from ceiling vent: urgent maintenance needed?« Back to Previous Page

My master bedroom AC has started making a constant dripping sound from the ceiling vent, but only at night when it's on the highest cooling setting. I woke up at 3 AM last night to what I thought was rain, but it's definitely coming from the unit. Is this a sign of a clogged drain pipe, and is it something I need to call maintenance for urgently?

Good evening. That dripping sound from your ceiling vent is a common yet significant issue we encounter in the UAE, especially with the AC units running at maximum capacity during the cooler night hours to combat our extreme daytime heat.

What you're describing is almost certainly a sign of a partially clogged condensate drain line. When your AC cools the humid Dubai air, it extracts a large volume of water vapor, which condenses on the evaporator coil and is supposed to drain away through a dedicated PVC pipe. When that drain line is restricted by algae, mold, or dust buildup—a frequent problem here—the water backs up in the drain pan until it overflows, often finding its way into the ductwork and out through the vents, exactly as you've heard.

This is not something to ignore. While it may seem like just a nuisance noise, the standing water is a primary cause of microbial growth (mold and bacteria) within the system, which can then be distributed throughout your bedroom, severely impacting indoor air quality and posing health risks. Furthermore, persistent overflow can cause water damage to your ceiling and internal structures.

For a definitive fix, a professional inspection and remediation are strongly recommended. Technicians will need to clear the blockage with specialized tools, disinfect the drain line and pan to prevent regrowth, and verify the system's integrity. This is not just a maintenance item; it's an indoor environmental quality concern.

Please do call our team for an urgent assessment. We can diagnose the issue completely and ensure your system is operating safely and hygienically.
