AC Duct Cleaning vs Regular Service for Child's Allergies?« Back to Previous Page

My two-year-old has been having a really bad runny nose and a cough that gets much worse at night, and I’m starting to think it’s the AC in our Dubai Marina apartment. I notice it’s especially bad in his room, and I can see a bit of dust building up around the vent. I’m getting confused by all the services advertised for AC cleaning, disinfection, and duct cleaning. What is the actual difference between AC duct cleaning and a regular AC service, and which one should I prioritize to help with my son's allergies?

Based on your description, this sounds like a classic case of poor indoor air quality exacerbating your son's respiratory issues, which is very common here in Dubai Marina. The high humidity and constant AC use create a perfect environment for allergens.

A regular AC service, which you should do every 6 months as per Dubai Municipality guidelines, focuses on the mechanical unit. The technician cleans the condenser coils, checks refrigerant levels, cleans the drain pan, and replaces the air filter. It’s essential for efficiency and preventing breakdowns, but it does very little for air quality beyond the filter change.

AC duct cleaning is a separate, specialized remediation process. It involves using powerful HEPA-filtered vacuaries and agitation tools to physically remove accumulated dust, mold, microbial growth, and other debris from the entire network of supply and return air ducts inside your apartment. This is the dust you're seeing around the vent. For a child with allergies, this is often the culprit, as every time the AC kicks on, it’s blowing those allergens directly into the room.

Given your son's symptoms, especially the nighttime worsening in his specific room, I'd prioritize a professional duct inspection and cleaning. The visible dust indicates a likely buildup throughout the system. A regular service won't fix that.

For a case like this, I strongly recommend a professional inspection to identify the specific contaminants. We use borescope cameras to look inside the ducts without damage. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a proper assessment. Addressing the root cause in the ducts will make a significant difference to his allergies.
