AC leak caused mold, who to call for cleaning?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment seems to be leaking a little bit of water onto the carpet in my son's bedroom. I just pulled his bed away from the wall yesterday and found a patch of black mold growing behind it. I’m really worried because his asthma has been worse this past month. What’s the best way to get this properly cleaned and who should I call to fix the AC unit for good?

The black mold behind the bed is a serious health concern, especially given your son's worsened asthma. In Dubai's humid climate, AC condensate leaks are a primary cause of indoor mold, creating the perfect damp environment for it to thrive.

You need two separate specialists for a permanent solution. First, a licensed HVAC technician must fix the AC unit's leak. They will address the root cause, which is often a blocked drain line, faulty installation, or damaged drip pan. Do not proceed with cleaning until the leak is permanently repaired, or the mold will return.

For the mold remediation, call a professional mold inspection and remediation company. This is not a standard cleaning job. Due to the confirmed presence of mold and its proximity to your asthmatic son, improper DIY cleaning can aerosolize spores and worsen the problem. A reputable company will contain the area, use HEPA filtration to remove spores from the air, and safely dispose of contaminated porous materials like the carpet padding. They should provide documented proof of remediation, typically through before-and-after lab reports or photos.

The Dubai Municipality has guidelines for indoor air quality, and professional remediators follow protocols to ensure the space is returned to a safe condition. Always verify that any company you hire is properly licensed and can explain their scientific process for containment, removal, and verification.
