AC Leak Causing Mold in Jumeirah: Cleanup and Fix?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet below, and now I’ve spotted a few small black patches of mold starting to form on the baseboard. It’s been so humid lately that I’m worried it’s just going to get worse. What’s the best way to clean this up myself and who should I call to fix the AC unit to stop it for good?

The immediate concern is stopping the AC leak, as it's the moisture source. In Dubai's high humidity, any standing water from a condensate drain blockage will fuel rapid mold growth. Turn off the unit to prevent further water damage and call a certified HVAC technician to clear the drain line and check the condensate pump.
For the small existing patches, you can clean non-porous surfaces like the baseboard with a solution of detergent and water. Dry it thoroughly immediately after. For the affected carpet, the pad underneath is likely soaked and must be dried professionally or replaced to prevent the mold from spreading internally. Given the visible growth and hidden moisture in the carpet, a professional inspection is advised to assess the full extent. They can use moisture meters to find hidden dampness and recommend a remediation protocol. For a permanent fix, the AC unit must be repaired and perhaps serviced more frequently to prevent future blockages common in our dusty, humid climate. |
