AC mold behind wardrobe: DIY or professional help in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit for the last couple of months and now I’ve spotted black and greenish mold patches spreading on the wall behind the wardrobe. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it just came back worse. Is this something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or do I need to call a professional company for mold remediation, and what’s the typical cost range for a job like this in a Dubai apartment?

The recurring mold growth after a vinegar cleaning indicates a persistent moisture source that you haven't addressed. In Dubai's high humidity, this is a common issue, especially with AC leaks that create a continuous damp environment. The mold behind the wardrobe is likely just the visible portion; the leak has probably caused a larger colony inside the wall cavity and AC unit itself.

For a situation involving an active leak and structural penetration, DIY solutions from ACE are a temporary fix at best. You need to first repair the AC leak to eliminate the moisture source. The visible mold on a non-porous surface like painted drywall can sometimes be cleaned, but the hidden growth within the wall is the real concern and requires professional assessment.

I would recommend a professional inspection. They use moisture meters and borescopes to see inside the wall, determining the full extent of the damage. Remediation involves containing the area, removing contaminated porous materials like drywall and insulation, and HEPA vacuuming before antimicrobial treatment. The cost is driven by the area's size and the remediation scope, so you'll need an on-site assessment for an accurate quote. Addressing it properly now prevents more extensive and expensive structural damage later.
