AC mold in Dubai: DIY fix or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our Jumeirah villa has been leaking a bit, and now I’ve spotted a patch of black, fuzzy mold on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. It’s been humid for the last couple of months and the smell is getting really musty. Is this something I can handle myself with cleaning spray, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai, and what kind of cost am I looking at for a small bedroom?

Given the AC leak and resulting wall mold in your Jumeirah villa, this is likely a professional job. The black patch behind the wardrobe suggests a moisture source is actively feeding it, which a surface clean won't fix. Dubai's high humidity, especially in summer, creates perfect conditions for mold to regrow quickly if the underlying dampness isn't resolved.

A small, isolated patch might be manageable with a thorough DIY approach: wear an N95 mask and gloves, clean with a vinegar or diluted bleach solution, and ensure the area is completely dried. However, the leak must be repaired first; otherwise, the mold will return.

In most cases like yours, a professional assessment is wise. They will identify the mold species, locate the full extent of the moisture intrusion (often worse inside walls), and remediate it correctly to prevent spores from spreading. For a standard bedroom, the process typically involves containment, removal of contaminated porous materials like drywall, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment. The final cost is driven by the extent of the damage and repair work needed, so it's best to get a site-specific assessment.
