AC mold in Dubai villa: DIY or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Jumeirah has been leaking a bit into the wall for a while, and now I’ve peeled back a corner of the wallpaper to find a huge patch of black, fuzzy mold. With the humidity rising, I'm worried it's spreading. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a mask, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

Based on your description of a "huge patch" of black, fuzzy mold stemming from an AC leak in your Jumeirah villa, my professional recommendation is that you absolutely need to call a certified mold remediation company. This is not a DIY situation.

The black, fuzzy appearance strongly suggests a significant fungal colony, likely of the Stachybotrys or Aspergillus types, which can produce mycotoxins and exacerbate respiratory issues. The core problem is the ongoing moisture from the AC leak; simply wiping the visible surface with bleach is a temporary and ineffective solution. Bleach does not penetrate porous materials like drywall and wallpaper backing, leaving the root system (mycelium) intact to regrow. Furthermore, improper cleaning can aerosolize these spores, spreading the contamination throughout your villa's air.

The humid climate of Dubai, especially now, provides the perfect conditions for rapid, unseen proliferation within your wall cavities. A professional inspection is critical. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the full extent of the water damage and hidden mold growth, which is always worse than what is visible.

Our remediation process at Saniservice follows strict IICRC protocols. It involves isolating the area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, safely removing and disposing of affected porous materials (drywall, insulation), and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial agents to clean the area. Crucially, we will identify and rectify the source of the AC leak to prevent recurrence.

For a case of this severity, DIY is a health risk and will likely lead to a larger, more expensive problem. Please contact our team for a professional assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
