AC mold in Jumeirah villa: DIY or professinal help« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in our villa in Jumeirah seems to be leaking and we’ve discovered a patch of black mold on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. It’s been getting worse over the last few weeks and I'm worried about our health. Is this a job I can handle myself with cleaners from ACE, or is it absolutely necessary to call a professional mold removal company, and what kind of cost should I expect for a small area like this?

For a leaking AC causing black mold on a wall in Jumeirah, professional remediation is strongly recommended over DIY. The visible patch is likely just the surface manifestation; the moisture from the leak has almost certainly penetrated the wall cavity, drywall, and insulation behind it, creating a larger colony you cannot see or properly treat with surface cleaners.
In Dubai's high humidity, simply wiping the surface will not address the root moisture problem. The AC leak must be repaired first to prevent immediate regrowth. For a proper remediation, the affected section of drywall and any damp insulation needs to be removed under containment to prevent spores from spreading into your living space, the area must be professionally HEPA-vacuumed and treated, and then rebuilt. Attempting this yourself risks inadequate containment, exposing your family to elevated spore levels and failing to fully eliminate the reservoir of mold inside the wall. The health risks, particularly in a bedroom, outweigh the DIY cost savings. For a small, contained area, the process is typically straightforward for a certified technician. Expect the cost to be influenced more by the necessary AC repair and the subsequent reconstruction work than by the mold removal itself. Always request a post-remediation verification test from an independent party to confirm the space is truly clean. |
