AC mold in Jumeirah Village Circle: pro job and cost?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making this weird damp smell for the last couple of weeks. I finally pulled the filter out and saw black splotchy patches all over the inside of the unit and the wall behind it. Given the humidity here, I know it’s mold, but I have no idea how to handle it myself. Is this a job for a professional cleaning company, and roughly how much should I expect to pay for them to clean the AC unit and the affected wall?

That damp smell and visible black splotches are classic signs of a mold colony, a common issue in JVC due to our high humidity and constant AC use. The condensation inside the unit creates a perfect damp environment for mold to grow on dust and organic debris.
This is a job for a professional. DIY cleaning with store-bought sprays often just bleaches the surface mold, leaving the root structure intact to regrow quickly. More importantly, improper cleaning can aerosolize a large number of spores, spreading the contamination throughout your apartment and potentially affecting your health. A professional remediation team will contain the area, use HEPA filtration to capture spores, and apply specialized biocides to address the growth at its source. They should also be equipped to clean and treat the affected wall behind the unit. The cost is variable and depends entirely on the severity of the infestation, the number of indoor units (AHUs) affected, and the extent of contamination on surrounding surfaces like the wall. A simple, contained unit cleaning will be at a different price point than a scenario requiring full containment and wall treatment. The only way to get an accurate assessment is to have a certified inspector evaluate the situation in person; any company quoting a fixed price without seeing the job should be approached with caution. Look for providers who can explain their process and provide documented proof of results, such as before-and-after testing. |
