AC mold smell returned stronger, need professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be blowing out a weird, damp odor that’s settled into the walls of our main bedroom in Jumeirah. I tried wiping down the visible black spots around the vent with vinegar, but the smell came back stronger after a few days and now my throat feels scratchy in the mornings. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company?

The stronger return of the odor and your scratchy throat indicate the mold has likely spread inside the AC unit or the ductwork, which vinegar surface cleaning cannot address. In Dubai's high humidity, AC systems are a primary breeding ground for mold due to constant condensation. The damp smell settling into your walls suggests possible spore penetration or even a hidden moisture source behind them.
For your health and to properly resolve this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY attempts with stronger chemicals often fail to reach the internal evaporator coils and contaminated ducts, and can create hazardous fumes. A proper assessment involves using borescopes to inspect inside the unit and ductwork to locate the full extent of the growth. The scratchy throat is a common reaction to elevated mold spore levels. Continued exposure can worsen allergies and respiratory irritation. Reputable remediation companies in Dubai should follow DM guidelines for indoor air quality and be able to provide before-and-after lab testing to verify the spore count has been measurably reduced to safe levels. This documented proof is what separates a thorough job from a superficial cleaning that allows the problem to return. |
