AC unit has mold and warm air: DIY or professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our villa's third bedroom in Al Barsha has been making a weird gurgling sound for a couple of weeks and now it’s just blowing warm, humid air. I opened the vent and can see what looks like black and green fuzzy growth around the inside of the unit, and the drain pan is completely full of stagnant water. Is this the dreaded mold chiller issue, and can I clean this myself with a bleach solution or is it a definite job for a professional HVAC company?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of what we in the industry call a "mold chiller" scenario, and it's a serious health and performance issue, especially in our Dubai humidity. The gurgling sound indicates a clogged condensate drain line, which has caused the pan to overflow. This stagnant water, combined with our constant AC use, creates the perfect breeding ground for mold—the black and green growth you're seeing.

Forget the bleach solution. It's a temporary fix that won't address the root cause and can actually damage the AC's internal components, releasing more spores into your air. In a confined space like a bedroom, this poses a significant inhalation risk.

This is 100% a job for a professional HVAC and mold remediation company. DIY attempts often worsen spore dispersal. We follow strict protocols per UAE municipality guidelines for hygienization, which involve isolating the unit, using HEPA vacuuming and EPA-approved biocides to safely remove the biofilm, and then mechanically clearing the drain line with specialized tools. A proper inspection will also check for mold in the ductwork that you can't see.

For a situation this advanced in Al Barsha, you need a certified pro to handle both the mold and the mechanical failure. Don't risk your health or the unit.

Call our specialists at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment. We'll get that unit cooling safely again.
