Best local product to remove bathroom mold in Jumeirah?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Jumeirah Village Circle apartment for 2 years and just noticed black, speckled mold growing in the grout between the bathroom wall tiles. It’s mostly in the corner behind the toilet where it’s a bit damp. What’s the most effective product I can find locally to kill this and stop it from coming back for good?

For surface mold on grout, a simple mix of white vinegar and baking soda applied with a stiff brush is highly effective and widely available. For tougher cases, look for a hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner (around 3-5% concentration) at stores like ACE Hardware or Carrefour; it's less harsh than chlorine bleach and doesn't produce toxic fumes in an enclosed space.

The key to stopping it from returning is managing humidity, which is a constant challenge in Dubai. Run your bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. If condensation still forms on walls and ceilings, a small dehumidifier or a portable fan to improve air circulation can make a significant difference. In many JVC apartments, the underlying issue is inadequate ventilation or a faulty exhaust fan that doesn't vent properly.

For recurring mold, especially behind fixtures, the growth may have penetrated deeper or there could be a hidden moisture issue. In these cases, surface cleaning is a temporary fix. A professional inspection can identify the root cause—like a small leak or compromised grout—and a lab test can confirm the mold type to ensure it's not a more problematic species.
