Best product to kill and prevent bathroom black mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold spreading in the corner where the shower wall meets the ceiling in our Marina apartment. It’s been incredibly humid lately and I think the bathroom’s extractor fan might be too weak. What’s the most effective product I can find locally to kill it and prevent it from coming back?

For surface mold in a bathroom, a solution of one part household bleach to four parts water is the most effective and accessible option in Dubai. Apply it directly to the area, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub and rinse. Ensure excellent ventilation during use. For painted surfaces, test a small area first to prevent discoloration.

Prevention is more critical than the cleaning product itself. The combination of high Dubai humidity and a weak extractor fan creates the perfect environment for mold. Your fan should be powerful enough to hold a square of toilet paper against the vent grill when running. If it can't, it's not effectively removing moisture. Run the fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower.

For a recurring or large-scale problem, the issue is likely behind the wall or ceiling tiles. Surface cleaning will only provide a temporary solution. In such cases, a professional inspection is necessary to assess the extent of the moisture damage and the potential for mold growth within the wall cavity, which requires proper remediation to resolve permanently.
