Best product to kill and prevent bathroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah apartment for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold starting to grow in the corner where the shower is. It’s been so humid lately that the walls never seem to fully dry out. What’s the most effective product I can find locally to kill this for good and prevent it from coming back?

Bleach-based cleaners are effective for surface mold on non-porous tiles but won't prevent regrowth. For porous grout, a hydrogen peroxide-based anti-mold spray or a concentrated fungicidal detergent (available at Ace Hardware or similar stores) is better, as it can penetrate deeper.

The core issue is the persistent moisture. Dubai's high humidity, especially during summer, means bathroom surfaces stay damp. After showering, use a squeegee on walls and a towel to dry the wet corner thoroughly. Improve ventilation by running the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after use and cracking a window if possible. A small dehumidifier can make a significant difference in apartments where airflow is poor.

If the mold patch is larger than one square foot, has a musty odor, or if you see discoloration on drywall or behind caulking, the growth is likely deeper. Surface cleaning will be temporary. In such cases, a professional inspection with moisture mapping can identify hidden water retention in walls, which is a common issue here due to condensation from constant AC use. Proper remediation then targets the source, not just the symptom.
