Best product to kill and prevent black mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold growing in the corner of our master bathroom shower. It’s the corner closest to the window in our Jumeirah apartment, and the grout has started to look dark and crumbly. I clean regularly, but the humidity here is just relentless. What’s the most effective product I can buy locally to kill this for good and prevent it from coming back?

The most effective and accessible product for surface mold on grout is a chlorine-based bathroom cleaner, widely available at supermarkets like Carrefour or Ace Hardware. Look for one with at least 5% sodium hypochlorite. For a more potent, professional-grade option, a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution from a chemical supply store is highly effective and leaves no toxic residue.

Apply the product directly to the mold patch, let it sit for 10-15 minutes to penetrate, then scrub with a stiff brush. The key is addressing the moisture source. In Dubai's high humidity, your bathroom's constant dampness is the root cause. After showering, use a squeegee on walls and run the exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes. If the grout is crumbling, the mold has likely penetrated deeply, making surface cleaning a temporary fix.

For a recurring problem in a porous surface like grout, professional assessment is often needed. They can determine if the seal is compromised or if moisture is wicking from behind the tile, which requires remediation, not just cleaning. A certified inspector can use moisture meters to identify hidden problems a surface clean won't solve.
