Best product to remove and prevent shower mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years in Jumeirah Village Circle and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the grout in our shower. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks and I think our bathroom’s ventilation isn't strong enough to handle it. What’s the most effective product I can find locally to kill this mold and prevent it from coming back?

Black mold in bathroom grout is extremely common in Dubai due to the high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use. For the mold you're seeing, a concentrated hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner is often the most effective solution you can find locally at stores like ACE Hardware or Carrefour. Look for products specifically labeled for mold and mildew removal, as they penetrate porous grout better than general cleaners.

Thorough application is key. Spray the cleaner generously, let it soak for the recommended time (usually 10-15 minutes), then scrub vigorously with a stiff brush. For severe or recurring cases, the mold may have penetrated deep behind the tiles, where surface cleaning is ineffective.

Prevention requires managing humidity. Run your bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. If the fan is weak, upgrading it is a worthwhile investment. Wiping down wet walls and squeegeeing the shower after use can dramatically reduce the moisture mold needs to grow.

If the mold returns quickly after a thorough cleaning, it indicates a persistent moisture issue or a more extensive infestation behind the wall. In such cases, a professional inspection can identify the root cause, such as inadequate sealing or hidden leaks, which DIY products cannot fix.
