Best way to remove black mold in Dubai for health?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold that's suddenly appeared in the corners of our master bathroom shower. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it spreading behind the toilet, probably from all the humidity. I wipe it down but it just comes back darker each week. What's the most effective product I can find locally in Dubai to kill this for good, and should I be worried about our health?

Black mold in bathrooms is common in Dubai due to high humidity and condensation from showers and year-round AC use. For your family's health, it's important to address it properly.

The most effective local products are chlorine-based mold removers, available at supermarkets and hardware stores. Look for active ingredients like sodium hypochlorite. For porous surfaces like grout, a dedicated grout cleaner with a scrubbing brush is more effective than just wiping. Always ensure the room is well-ventilated during cleaning and wear gloves and a mask to avoid inhaling spores.

However, cleaning only addresses the visible growth, not the underlying moisture problem. The mold will almost certainly return unless you improve ventilation. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and consider using a portable dehumidifier. Wiping down wet surfaces immediately also helps.

Given that your children are coughing and the mold is recurring aggressively, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. Surface cleaning can aerosolize spores, potentially worsening air quality. Persistent coughing linked to visible mold growth indicates that the issue may be affecting your indoor air. A certified inspector can identify the extent of the problem, including any hidden mold, and perform air quality testing to determine the spore count. This is the only way to get a definitive answer on the health risk and to guide an effective, permanent remediation plan, not just a temporary cleaning solution.
