Best way to remove black mold in Dubbai bathroom« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black, fuzzy mold spreading along the ceiling in the corner of our master bathroom in Downtown Dubai. I think it’s because the ventilation isn't great in there, even though we run the exhaust fan. What’s the most effective and safe product I can buy locally to get rid of this for good?

Black mold in a Dubai bathroom is primarily driven by the high humidity and condensation from showers, even with an exhaust fan running. The most effective and safe locally available product is a chlorine-based bathroom cleaner, like a thick bleach gel, applied directly to the mold. Leave it on for the manufacturer's recommended time to penetrate and kill the spores at the root, then scrub and rinse thoroughly. Always wear gloves, a mask, and ensure the room is well-ventilated during the process.

For a surface to be cleanable, the root cause must be addressed. In Dubai's climate, this means reducing ambient moisture. Run your AC consistently to lower indoor humidity, and verify your exhaust fan is actually moving air by holding a tissue to it—if it doesn't hold, the fan may be underpowered or the duct blocked. Wiping down wet walls and surfaces after every shower is a critical habit.

If the mold covers an area larger than one square meter, has a persistent musty odor, or returns quickly after cleaning, the growth may be behind the tiles or ceiling. In these cases, a professional inspection with moisture mapping is needed to identify hidden dampness. DIY cleaning will only address the surface issue, and improper handling can aerosolize harmful spores.
