Black and green mold on wall: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
The wall behind our sofa in the living room has a bunch of black and greenish spots spreading from the corner. It started as a tiny patch after that really humid spell we had a couple of weeks ago, but now it's grown to about the size of a dinner plate. I’ve wiped it down with vinegar, but it just seems to come back darker. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaning product, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

In Dubai's climate, that regrowth after wiping is the key sign this is an active moisture problem, not just a surface stain. The persistent high humidity and constant AC use create a perfect environment for mold to penetrate porous materials like drywall and insulation behind it. Vinegar only addresses the surface, not the root cause.
For a patch the size of a dinner plate that has returned, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The goal is to identify and rectify the source of moisture, which is often hidden. In many Dubai villas and apartments, this can be a leaking pipe within the wall, condensation from an AC duct, or capillary rise from a previous leak in the slab. A certified inspector uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the source without unnecessary demolition. DIY attempts with stronger chemicals like bleach are not advised. They can release harmful spores into the air and fail to address the moisture, guaranteeing regrowth. For a proper remediation, the affected section of drywall and any damp insulation likely needs to be removed under containment to prevent cross-contamination, the cavity treated, and then rebuilt. This is a technical process for which companies like ours hold DHA-approved certifications. You can verify a provider's credibility by asking for their remediation methodology and if they offer post-clearance testing to confirm the space is measurably clean and dry before repainting. |
