Black mold and kids' cough: need professional inspection?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past two weeks and I just found a small patch of black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. With all the humidity lately in our Jumeirah Park villa, I’m worried it’s more widespread. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold inspection company to check the walls?

Based on the symptoms you've described and the discovery of black spots, I strongly recommend you cease any DIY attempts and immediately contact a professional mold inspection company. The persistent cough in your children is a significant health indicator that should not be overlooked, as it can be a reaction to mycotoxins and spores released by certain types of mold, including the dangerous Stachybotrys chartarum (black mold).

The climate in Jumeirah Park, like much of Dubai, creates a perfect storm for hidden mold growth. The high ambient humidity, combined with year-round air conditioning, leads to significant condensation within wall cavities, behind furniture, and under flooring—areas you cannot see. A small visible patch is often just the tip of the iceberg. Using bleach is highly inadvisable; it is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing a surge of spores into the air, potentially worsening your family's symptoms.

A certified professional inspection is absolutely necessary. We use specialized tools such as borescopes to look inside walls and moisture meters to identify the exact source of water intrusion. Most critically, we perform air quality testing to quantify the spore count in your breathing air, which is essential to correlating the mold presence with your children's health issues. This scientific approach is the only way to determine the full scope of the problem and develop a safe, effective remediation plan compliant with local standards.

For the health of your family, do not delay. Please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a comprehensive inspection. Saniservice is equipped to provide you with a definitive assessment and a clear path to a safe and healthy home.
