Black mold behind wardrobe: call pro and expected cost?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed these black fuzzy patches spreading behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. It’s definitely gotten worse since the last time we ran the AC constantly during the humid weather. I’m worried about my allergies and don't want to make it worse by trying to clean it myself. For a problem like this in a villa, should I just call a professional, and what’s a realistic cost I should expect for the inspection and removal?

Black mold growth behind furniture, especially in humid coastal areas like Jumeirah, is a common issue driven by condensation from constant AC use. Given the spread you’ve described and your allergies, a professional inspection is strongly recommended over DIY cleaning, which can disperse harmful spores.
A proper inspection involves identifying the moisture source—often condensation from the cold wall meeting humid air or a minor leak—and assessing the extent of the mold behind the wall. In Dubai’s climate, simply wiping it away will not prevent its return. Remediation typically includes isolating the area, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and addressing the moisture source to prevent recurrence. Costs are not fixed and depend entirely on the infestation's severity and the required remediation scope. For a contained area like behind a wardrobe, the process may be straightforward. However, if the mold has penetrated the wall or is linked to an AC duct leak, the scope and cost will increase. Reputable providers will offer a detailed assessment and quote before any work begins. Expect to request quotes from companies that provide documented before-and-after lab testing to verify the space is safe, as this is the standard for verifiable results. |
