Black mold behind wardrobe: DIY clean or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual, and I’ve just found a patch of black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and we’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it now after the recent humidity. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach, or do I need to call a professional mold inspection company?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of mold growth in a Dubai home, and I strongly advise against a DIY bleach clean. The black spots behind the wardrobe, located on an exterior wall, point directly to condensation issues. In our climate, the extreme outdoor humidity meets the cold surfaces of air-conditioned interior walls, creating the perfect breeding ground for mold. The recent humidity spike has simply made the problem visible.

Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and plaster. It only bleaches the surface pigment while the mold's root structure (hyphae) remains embedded within the wall. This leads to rapid regrowth, often worse than before. Furthermore, disturbing the patch by cleaning can aerosolize spores, potentially increasing your children's exposure and exacerbating their respiratory symptoms like coughing.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is not just recommended; it is crucial. Our certified inspectors at Saniservice perform a comprehensive assessment that includes moisture mapping with thermal imaging to identify the exact moisture source within the wall cavity, air and surface sampling to identify the specific mold species and spore concentration levels in your bedroom's air, and a detailed report outlining the necessary remediation protocol. This scientific approach is essential to ensure the problem is solved at its root, protecting your family's health and your property's integrity.

Do not risk your family's health. For a definitive diagnosis and a permanent solution, please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
