Black mold behind wardrobe: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom in our villa in Jumeirah has felt really damp for the last couple of months, and we've just found a huge patch of black mold behind the wardrobe. With the humidity here, I'm worried it's a bigger problem inside the walls. Is this something I can handle with bleach and a dehumidifier from Ace, or do I absolutely need to call in a professional mold removal company? And if so, what's a realistic cost for a room this size?

Based on the conditions you've described—a villa in Jumeirah, persistent dampness, and a large patch of black mold—this is a situation that requires professional intervention, not a DIY approach. The high humidity and condensation inherent to Dubai's climate, combined with year-round AC use, create a perfect environment for mold to penetrate deep into building materials, including behind walls and under floor slabs.

Using bleach is ineffective and dangerous; it only removes surface discoloration without addressing the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root structure) within the porous wall. A consumer dehumidifier is insufficient for the level of saturation you're likely facing. Attempting to handle this yourself risks inadequate remediation, leading to rapid regrowth and potential health issues from disturbed spores.

A professional inspection is critical. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to identify the exact moisture source and the full extent of the contamination, which is almost certainly greater than what is visible. Remediation involves containment barriers, HEPA filtration, and specialized antimicrobial treatments to ensure complete eradication, following international IICRC standards.

For a single bedroom of this nature, a realistic cost for professional inspection, testing, and remediation would typically range from AED 2,500 to AED 6,000, depending on the severity and the required wall-opening works.

Given the potential health risks and structural concerns, I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional. For immediate assessment and a detailed quote, please call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
