Black mold behind wardrobe from AC drip? Who to call?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. I pulled the furniture out to clean and was shocked at how much is there. It’s been humid lately and the AC unit in that room has been dripping more than usual. What’s the best way to handle this properly and who should I call to check if it’s a bigger problem with the AC?

That black mold growth is a direct result of the AC condensation drip and Dubai's high humidity creating a perfect breeding environment. The wall cavity behind the wardrobe is likely saturated.
First, address the moisture source immediately. The AC unit's condensate drain line is probably blocked or the drip pan is damaged, requiring an HVAC technician to fix the leak. Until repaired, the mold will return even if cleaned. For the mold itself, do not attempt to clean extensive growth yourself, as improper methods can aerosolize spores throughout your home. This requires professional assessment. The size and location (hidden, likely widespread) mean you should call a certified mold inspection company. They use moisture meters and borescopes to check inside the wall for the full extent of the damage and take air/surface samples for lab analysis to identify the species. In the UAE, look for providers affiliated with DM or DHA guidelines and who can provide a detailed report with verifiable lab results from an accredited microbiology lab. A proper remediation plan will be based on that scientific diagnosis to ensure it's handled safely and effectively, preventing recurrence. |
