Black mold found after humidity, need professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks now, and I just found black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. I'm in a Jumeirah villa and we had that really bad humidity a month ago. Is this a job I can handle myself with bleach or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai?

Given the humidity we had and the location in a Jumeirah villa, this situation very likely requires a professional assessment. While small surface mould on non-porous tiles can sometimes be managed with a diluted bleach solution, what you describe—black spots on a wall behind furniture—suggests a deeper moisture issue.

The wardrobe traps humid air against the wall, creating a perfect environment for mould growth within the plasterboard itself. Bleach only cleans the surface you can see; it will not address the colony growing inside the porous material. Disturbing it during a DIY cleanup can also release a significant number of spores, potentially worsening your children's coughing.

In Dubai's climate, the root cause is often condensation from AC systems or a minor, hidden leak. A proper remediation involves identifying and correcting that moisture source first, then safely containing and removing the affected building materials. Professionals use HEPA filtration to capture spores during removal, which is critical for preventing their spread to other parts of the house.

For health concerns with children involved, a professional inspection is strongly advised. They can determine the extent of the problem and perform post-remediation verification testing to confirm the air quality is safe, which is a standard part of a proper remediation process in the UAE.
