Black mold from AC leak: DIY vinegar or call pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah seems to be constantly leaking, and now I’m seeing these black speckles on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. It’s been getting worse since the humidity spiked a few weeks ago. Is this something I can tackle with a vinegar spray myself, or is it time to call one of those professional mold removal companies in Dubai?

Black speckles from an AC leak are likely a mold colony, and vinegar is insufficient for this scenario. The leak provides the constant moisture mold needs to thrive, so the source must be fixed first. In Dubai's high humidity, surface cleaning alone is a temporary fix at best.
For a leak-induced wall colony, professional assessment is advised. The mold may have spread inside the wall cavity, which you cannot see or treat yourself. A proper remediation process involves isolating the area, removing contaminated porous materials like drywall, and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration to capture spores, not just spraying them into your air. Vinegar can disturb the colony, causing a widespread release of spores that can settle and grow elsewhere. Bleach is also not recommended, as it is mostly water and can feed the root structure of the mold. DIY attempts often worsen the problem. Look for a provider that offers a clear protocol: identifying and stopping the moisture source, containing the area, removing contaminated materials, HEPA vacuuming, and finally treating surfaces with an EPA-approved antimicrobial. The most credible companies will provide before-and-after lab testing to verify the air quality and that the species has been effectively removed. Given the climate and the construction materials common here, a professional approach is the most reliable way to resolve this. |
