Black mold in AC: DIY bleach or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah seems to be constantly leaking, and now I’ve found a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, spreading on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. I’m worried about my family breathing this in, especially with the little one’s allergies. Is this something I can tackle myself with a bleach spray from the supermarket, or do I absolutely need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

A professional assessment is strongly recommended for this scenario. The size (dinner plate) and location (wall cavity) suggest a significant moisture issue from the AC leak, and black discoloration can indicate several species, some of which require professional handling.

In Dubai's climate, the constant high humidity and AC use create perfect conditions for mold to regrow if the underlying moisture problem isn't solved. A DIY bleach spray will only remove surface discoloration on non-porous materials; it cannot penetrate drywall to kill the root structure, and it does not address the ongoing leak. The spores disturbed during cleaning could also become airborne.

For a case involving a child with allergies, hidden mold growth, and a persistent water source, a professional inspection is the safest approach. They will identify and stop the AC leak first, then assess the full extent of the mold damage behind the wall. Remediation often requires controlled removal of affected building materials and HEPA vacuuming to prevent cross-contamination. A company with its own microbiology lab can provide concrete identification and post-remediation verification testing, which is crucial for peace of mind regarding your family's health.
