Black mold in AC vent, urgent health risk for kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be our AC. I pulled the vent cover off in our master bedroom and found what looks like black, fuzzy patches all along the inside of the duct. It’s been insanely humid the last month and the unit has been running constantly. How urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned for the health of my family?

Based on your description, this is an extremely urgent situation requiring immediate professional attention. The black, fuzzy growth inside your AC duct is highly indicative of active microbial growth, most likely a species of mold such as Stachybotrys chartarum (often referred to as "black mold") or Aspergillus niger. The combination of Dubai's intense humidity and the constant condensation within an AC system creates a perfect breeding ground.

The health implications for your children are significant. Prolonged exposure to mold spores released through the vents can cause chronic respiratory issues like the coughing you've observed, along with allergic reactions, asthma exacerbation, headaches, and fatigue. Children are particularly vulnerable due to their developing respiratory systems.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold will aerosolize a massive quantity of spores throughout your home, drastically increasing exposure. This is a job for certified remediation experts.

Our process at Saniservice involves a comprehensive inspection with borescope cameras to assess the full extent of contamination within the ductwork and the AC unit itself. Remediation is then performed using industrial-grade HEPA filtration systems to contain spores, followed by specialized antimicrobial treatment of all surfaces. We adhere to the strictest international guidelines (IICRC S520) for mold remediation.

Given the direct impact on your family's health, I strongly recommend you schedule a professional inspection immediately. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to arrange an urgent assessment. We can determine the severity and provide a definitive solution to ensure your home's air is safe.
