Black mold in bedroom corner, need inspection?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots appearing in the corner of our bedroom where the wall meets the ceiling, and it's starting to spread. We keep the AC running constantly, but the room still feels a bit damp. Is this definitely mold, and can anyone recommend a reliable and thorough company to do a proper inspection and tell us how bad it is?

What you're describing is almost certainly mold, a common issue here due to our high humidity and constant AC use. The corner where the wall meets the ceiling is a classic spot for condensation to form, as it's often a thermal bridge where cooler outdoor air meets the cooled indoor air, creating a damp surface perfect for mold growth.
You need a professional inspection. A proper assessment involves more than a visual check; it includes measuring the moisture content deep within the wall and potentially air or surface sampling to identify the mold species. This diagnosis is critical for determining the correct remediation strategy, as simply wiping it away will not address the underlying moisture source and it will return. Look for a provider that offers a comprehensive report with moisture mapping data and, if samples are taken, analysis from an accredited microbiology lab. This gives you verifiable evidence of the problem's extent and root cause. In Dubai, remediation work should align with guidelines like the DM's building criteria to ensure it's done correctly. Any reputable company will prioritize identifying and solving the moisture issue first—often inadequate insulation in that corner or an AC unit not dehumidifying properly—before any cleaning or removal takes place. |
