Black mold in bedroom: DIY bleach or professional inspection?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our guest bedroom in our villa in Jumeirah 3 has been closed up for a while, and when I opened it yesterday, I found a bunch of black spots spreading along the bottom of the wall near the window. We had that big storm a couple of months ago and I'm worried water got in behind the plaster. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach, or should I call a professional for a proper mold inspection and what would that typically cost in Dubai?

In your Dubai villa, especially after the heavy rain, that black mold is likely a sign of water intrusion behind the wall. Bleach is a surface-level fix and will not address the moisture source or the mold growing within the wall cavity. The high humidity here will cause it to return quickly.
A professional inspection is strongly recommended for this scenario. The goal is to identify the exact moisture source—likely a leak from the window frame or a breach in the external wall from the storm—and assess the full extent of the contamination inside the wall. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to see what’s hidden, followed by air or surface sampling to identify the mold species. This is critical for planning an effective remediation strategy, as some types require more stringent containment procedures. For a standard room inspection with moisture mapping and a lab sample, expect the process to be a comprehensive diagnostic service. Always request a detailed report that includes the lab findings and a scope of work for remediation; this is what separates a legitimate inspection from a simple visual check. Without fixing the leak and properly drying the structure, the mold will recur. |
