Black mold in bedroom: DIY clean or call professionals?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past couple of weeks and I just found a bunch of black spots on the back of the wardrobe in our master bedroom, which is right against the outer wall. We keep the AC running but the room still feels damp sometimes, especially since the weather changed. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or do I need to call one of those professional mold removal companies in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—persistent coughing in children and visible black spots on a wardrobe against an exterior wall—this is a situation that warrants immediate and professional attention. The combination of health effects and the location of the growth strongly suggests a deeper issue that DIY methods will not resolve.

The damp feeling in the room, despite AC use, is a classic symptom in Dubai's climate. The extreme humidity, especially during summer months, leads to significant condensation within building structures and on cold surfaces like exterior walls and behind furniture. Your AC may be cooling the air but not adequately removing the moisture, creating a perfect breeding ground for mold within the wall cavity itself. Cleaning the visible surface with bleach or vinegar is a temporary fix; it will not address the hidden microbial growth or the underlying moisture source.

According to UAE health and safety guidelines, remediation of mold affecting occupant health or covering a sizable area (typically more than 1 square meter) should be handled by certified professionals. We use specialized equipment, including thermal imaging cameras to identify hidden dampness and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source. The remediation process involves containment to prevent cross-contamination, HEPA filtration, and the application of specialized biocides and sealants approved for use in the UAE.

For the health of your family and to ensure the problem is eradicated at its source, I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Our team at Saniservice can conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine the extent of the infestation and provide a certified remediation plan.
