Black mold in bedroom: DIY clean or hire pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom in the Jumeirah villa has had a persistent damp smell ever since the humidity kicked in a couple of months ago. I finally moved the wardrobe and found a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, spreading on the wall behind it. My wife is worried about our allergies acting up. For a problem like this in a bedroom, should I just clean it myself with bleach, or is this a job for a professional, and what kind of cost am I looking at in Dubai?

Based on the conditions you've described in your Jumeirah villa, I strongly recommend against a DIY bleach clean and advise you to engage a professional mold remediation company.

The black mold growth behind the wardrobe is a symptom of a persistent moisture issue, likely caused by a combination of Dubai's high ambient humidity and a localized problem such as a small plumbing leak, capillary rising damp from the slab, or condensation buildup from the AC unit. Bleach is a surface-level treatment that does not address the moisture source or kill the mold roots (hyphae) penetrating the porous wall material. It can also aggravate spore release and pose significant respiratory risks during application, especially in an enclosed bedroom.

For a patch the size of a dinner plate, a professional inspection is critical to identify the exact moisture source and the extent of the contamination, which is often far greater than what is visible. Remediation would involve containment of the area with negative air pressure, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application to the affected structure, and addressing the root cause of the moisture to prevent recurrence. The cost for a professional job of this scale in Dubai typically ranges from AED 1,500 to AED 4,000, depending on the investigation required and the extent of the remediation work.

Given your wife's allergies, this is not a risk to take lightly. I recommend you contact our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection and tailored solution. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
