Black mold in bedroom: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the corner of our master bedroom wall, which is adjacent to the bathroom. It's been getting worse since the humid weather started a couple of months ago, and now my husband is getting headaches. Is this something I can handle myself with cleaning spray from ACE, or do we absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company, and if so, what's the typical cost for a room in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants immediate professional attention. The presence of persistent black spots, their recent proliferation coinciding with Dubai's high humidity season, and the onset of health symptoms like your husband's headaches are strong indicators of a significant mold issue.

Attempting a DIY solution with a generic cleaning spray is strongly discouraged. Superficial cleaning will not address the root moisture source, which is likely due to condensation from your year-round AC system or a hidden leak in the adjacent bathroom plumbing. Ineffective cleaning can aerosolize toxic mold spores, exacerbating health risks and spreading the contamination throughout your home.

The UAE's hot and humid climate, particularly in coastal areas like Jumeirah, creates a perfect environment for mold growth inside buildings. Proper inspection requires specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact moisture intrusion point. Furthermore, what appears as a surface issue on the wall could be indicative of a much larger colony within the wall cavity.

For a master bedroom of that size, a professional remediation process typically involves containment, air scrubbing, safe removal of contaminated materials, application of EPA-approved biocides, and post-remediation verification to ensure the environment is safe. Costs in Dubai for a single room can vary based on the extent of the infestation but generally start from AED 2,500 onwards.

Given the health symptoms and potential for structural damage, we recommend a certified inspection immediately.
