Black mold in closet: clean myself or call management?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and it’s been really humid lately in our JVC villa. What’s the best way to clean this myself, or should I call the building management immediately?

Based on your description of a black mold patch on an exterior wall in your JVC villa, this is a situation that warrants immediate attention. The combination of Dubai's high ambient humidity and the constant cooling from your AC system creates significant condensation within wall cavities, especially on exterior-facing surfaces. This is a common failure point in villa construction here.
While a very small, superficial patch might be addressed with a DIY approach using a diluted bleach or vinegar solution, I strongly advise against it in this case. The location on an exterior wall suggests the moisture source is likely interstitial condensation within the wall itself, not just surface humidity. Cleaning the visible growth does nothing to address the root moisture problem, and it will return. Furthermore, improper cleaning can aerosolize toxic mold spores, spreading them to other areas of your home and posing a health risk. Your first call should be to your building management or landlord. Under UAE tenancy laws, structural issues leading to water intrusion and mold are typically the responsibility of the property owner. They need to be notified to investigate and rectify the source of the moisture. For a definitive assessment and safe remediation, a professional inspection is crucial. We use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact condensation source and assess the extent of the hidden growth within the wall cavity. This is not something a visual inspection can determine. For expert diagnosis and a certified remediation plan, I recommend contacting our team at Saniservice.
