Black mold in Dubai apartment: DIY or professional cost?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been leaking a bit and now we’ve discovered a decent-sized patch of black mold behind the bedroom wardrobe. It’s been humid lately and the spot feels damp. I’m worried about my family’s health but also don’t want to get ripped off. What’s the realistic cost to get this professionally treated by a reputable company in Dubai, and is it a complete DIY fail to try and handle it myself?

DIY is not recommended for a damp, hidden patch this size. In Dubai's high humidity, improper cleaning can aerosolize spores and spread the problem. You must first fix the AC leak; otherwise, the mold will return regardless of treatment.

For professional remediation, expect costs to vary significantly based on the extent of contamination behind the wardrobe and whether the wall cavity is affected. Reputable companies base quotes on the scope of work, not a flat fee. The most important factor is their methodology: they should isolate the area, use HEPA filtration to capture spores, and remove the mold, not just spray it. A post-remediation verification test from an independent lab is the only way to confirm it's been properly addressed.

Before hiring anyone, ask for their detailed process and if they provide a clearance certificate. This is your assurance against scams. For a situation involving an ongoing leak and hidden growth, a professional assessment is the safest first step to protect your family's health.
