Black mold in Jumeirah Park closet: DIY or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom’s walk-in closet has had this damp, earthy smell for a couple of months, but I finally pulled everything out and found black mold spreading on the back wall behind the shelves. It’s a villa in Jumeirah Park and the wall feels slightly cold and damp to the touch. I'm worried about the health implications and the cost—is this a job for those DHA-approved mold removal companies, or can I tackle it myself with products from ACE?

The size and damp wall suggest a moisture issue, not just surface condensation, which is common in Dubai's climate. For a confirmed black mold colony over about one square foot, especially on a structural wall, DIY is not recommended.

Jumeirah Park villas often have exterior wall condensation issues, where the year-round AC cools walls enough for humidity to condense inside. The dampness means the moisture source is active, so cleaning the surface mold will not stop it from returning. A professional inspection is needed to identify the root cause—it could be an internal pipe leak, insufficient insulation, or seepage.

Using bleach or ACE products can spread spores and is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall. Improper handling risks significant cross-contamination throughout your home.

For health safety and to prevent structural damage, a DHA-approved remediation company is the correct path. They are licensed to contain the area, safely remove contaminated materials, and, most critically, diagnose and resolve the underlying dampness. The cost to fix the root cause is almost always less than repeatedly treating the symptom. Request a company that provides a detailed moisture mapping report and post-remediation verification testing from an independent lab.
