Black mold in Mirdif villa: DIY clean or hire pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the corner of our bedroom wall where it meets the ceiling. It’s in our villa in Mirdif, and it’s definitely gotten worse since the weather got more humid a couple of months ago. I’m worried about my family breathing it in, but I have no idea what this kind of remediation usually costs here. Should I just try to clean it myself with bleach, or is this a job for professional mold removal companies in Dubai?

Black spots at the wall-ceiling junction in a Mirdif villa are a common symptom of condensation due to Dubai's high humidity and constant AC use. The AC creates a cold surface on the wall, and when humid air contacts it, moisture forms, providing the perfect environment for mold growth.

For a small area (less than one square meter), DIY cleaning can be attempted. Do not use bleach, as it is mostly water and can feed the mold roots inside porous materials like drywall. A solution of distilled white vinegar or a dedicated mold-cleaning product is more effective for surface cleaning. However, this only addresses the visible growth, not the underlying moisture problem. The mold will almost certainly return unless you correct the condensation issue, often by improving room insulation or adjusting AC airflow.

Given the growth has worsened over months and is in a bedroom where family members are breathing the air, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They can identify the specific mold type through lab analysis and pinpoint the exact source of moisture. Remediation costs vary significantly based on the extent of the infestation and the required repairs to the building envelope. The only way to get an accurate understanding of the scope and cost is to request an on-site assessment from a company that provides detailed lab reports and remediation plans.
