Black mold in villa bedroom: DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our AC in the bedroom of our Jumeirah villa has been leaking a bit and now we’ve found a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, on the wall behind the wardrobe. It’s been humid lately and I’m worried about it spreading, especially with our two-year-old sleeping in there. For a job like this, is it something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or should I just call a professional mold removal company in Dubai and what would that likely cost?

That leak and resulting mold growth is a common issue in Dubai villas, especially with the recent humidity. Given the location behind a wardrobe and the presence of a young child, this requires a professional assessment, not a DIY attempt.

The visible patch is likely just the surface manifestation; moisture from the AC leak has probably penetrated the wall and insulation behind it, creating a larger reservoir of mold you cannot see. Store-bought sprays from ACE will only address the surface stain, not the root moisture problem or hidden growth, leading to rapid recurrence.

For a child's bedroom, identifying the mold species is also a key step. While the term "black mold" is alarming, many common black-colored molds are irritants, not extreme toxins. However, only a lab analysis can confirm the type and the actual risk level, which is crucial for peace of mind.

A reputable remediation company will first contain the area to prevent spores from spreading into the room during cleaning. They will then remove the affected drywall, treat the cavity, and use industrial dehumidifiers to ensure the structure is completely dry before repairing it. The final, critical step is a post-remediation verification test to confirm the air and surfaces are clean.

For a job of this nature, involving potential structural moisture and a sensitive environment, the process is more involved than surface cleaning. You should request an on-site inspection from a provider with microbiology lab capabilities to get an accurate scope of work and a proper assessment of the underlying cause.
