Black mold in wardrobe: DIY fix or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom wardrobe on the outer wall has these black speckles spreading in the corner, and it’s felt really damp since the humidity spiked a few weeks ago. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it came right back. I’m worried it’s getting worse every time the AC turns off. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional?

That sounds like a classic Dubai humidity problem, especially on an outer wall. The black speckles returning after a vinegar wipe mean the moisture source is active and the mould's roots (hyphae) are still in the material.

For a small surface area (under one square foot), a thorough DIY approach can work. First, wear an N95 mask and gloves. Scrub the area with a dedicated mould remover or a solution of detergent and water, not just vinegar, to physically remove the biomass. Then, let the area dry completely with a dehumidifier or fan. Crucially, you must address the moisture. Outer walls can get cold from AC and then condense humid air when the unit cycles off, creating a perpetual damp spot. Improve air circulation around the wardrobe and consider a moisture-absorbing product inside it.

If the mould covers a larger area, has a musty odour, has penetrated porous materials like drywall, or returns after a proper DIY clean, a professional assessment is needed. They can identify the exact extent of the problem, the species present (as "black mould" is a broad term), and the precise moisture source. In many Dubai villas, this requires tools like thermal imaging to find hidden condensation issues within the wall itself. A science-driven company can provide a remediation plan and post-clean verification testing to ensure it's truly resolved, not just表面干净.
