Black mold near AC vent: DIY or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page
|
The AC in my apartment seems to be blowing out a weird, damp odor and I just found patches of black mold around the vent in my son's bedroom here in Jumeirah. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came back within a couple of days. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Black mold recurrence after cleaning indicates a deeper issue within the AC system itself, likely in the ductwork or evaporator coil where moisture constantly accumulates. The high humidity and year-round AC use in Dubai create a perfect environment for this.
For a small, isolated patch on a hard surface, a thorough DIY cleaning with a dedicated mold remover (not just vinegar) can be effective if you address the moisture source. However, mold near a vent is rarely isolated. Wiping the visible growth does nothing for the spores and colonies inside the ducts, which will continue to spread contaminated air throughout the apartment, particularly into your son's room. Professional remediation is strongly advised here. The process involves containing the area to prevent cross-contamination, HEPA vacuuming the ducts, and antimicrobial treatment of the entire system. In Dubai, look for a company that provides before-and-after testing from an accredited microbiology lab to verify the spore count has been returned to safe levels. This is the only way to confirm the problem is resolved, not just hidden. |
