Black mold on interior wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It's an interior wall, not facing outside, and the room always feels a bit damp even with the AC on. What's the best way to get this treated properly in Dubai, and should I call the building management first or just hire a specialist myself?

This is likely a condensation issue, common in Dubai bedrooms where cool AC air meets warm interior walls, creating persistent dampness. The black spots are almost certainly mold, and moving the wardrobe is the first step to assess the full extent.

You should notify building management first, as this could be a building envelope or internal leakage issue they are responsible for addressing. However, for the actual diagnosis and remediation, hiring a specialist is often more effective. A proper inspection will use a moisture meter to find the water source and take tape or air samples for lab analysis to identify the mold species, which dictates the remediation protocol.

For treatment, simply wiping it with bleach is insufficient and can spread spores. Professional remediation involves isolating the area, removing contaminated materials like drywall if necessary, and using HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial agents to clean the area. The critical final step is solving the moisture problem, which usually requires improving room ventilation or addressing thermal bridging in the wall to prevent condensation from recurring.
