Black mold spreading on ceiling in Dubai - call management first?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. I first saw it a couple of weeks ago, but it’s definitely gotten bigger, and the room has a really damp smell now, especially in the mornings. What’s the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call the building management first, or get a professional mold remediation company myself?

Report this to your building management immediately, as they are typically responsible for structural issues like this. In Dubai, persistent ceiling mold often originates from a hidden leak in the AC condensation line, a faulty seal on the roof, or internal pipework within the slab—all of which are the building's responsibility to investigate and repair.

Given the growth and musty smell, a professional inspection is strongly advised. Dubai's high humidity and constant AC use create perfect conditions for mold, especially in wall cavities where condensation can accumulate unseen. A certified inspector can identify the exact moisture source with thermal imaging and moisture meters, which is crucial for a permanent fix.

While management should address the leak's cause, you may need to engage a remediation specialist for the actual mold removal, especially if the growth is extensive or if you have health concerns. They will contain the area, safely remove the contaminated materials, and treat the space to prevent recurrence. Always request a post-remediation verification test to confirm the space is truly clean; this is a standard practice for science-driven companies with their own microbiology labs.
